The average rent in town is over $2,000. A typical house in Plainville is almost $600,000. Young people can't afford to live in their hometown. Seniors are struggling to downsize. We know things have gotten out of hand when the cheapest apartment in town sits around $1,900 a month. Our community must support opportunities for affordable housing construction. We can explore solutions to remedy the housing crisis without overdeveloping. Specifically the creation of a housing trust and the expansion of the Plainville Housing Authority are tangible solutions that could provide immediate solutions.
Everyone in Plainville deserves to be able to get around safely regardless of what mode of travel they choose. We must continue to expand our sidewalk network and ensure ADA standards are met.Â
You deserve proactive and problem solving Select Board. As a member, I will hold monthly in-person and virtual office hours to discuss town policy and constituent service requests. I view the role of a Select Board member as more than casting a vote at a bi-monthly meeting; it's a liaison role that helps demystify town government for residents.
